Types of Lace Wig Adhesives

There is a variety of adhesives for applying your lace wig. Because everyone’s body chemistry is different, what may work for one person may not necessarily work for you, so be patient and don’t be afraid to experiment. Below is a list of common adhesives and the pros and cons of each one:

Ultra Hold Adhesive Review:

Pros: This is the liquid adhesive that everyone raves about (and for good reason). This item is also used in the medical industry. This adhesive has a waterproof, non-yellowing acrylic formula base; and is medical grade. It has a 4-6 week hold. Most of the other adhesives are for 10-14 days. If you are interested in rue extended wear, this is the product for you. This product is a thicker liquid than most other adhesives so it is important to allow proper drying time. We insist on following the manufacturer’s directions with this which is 5-10 minutes. This adhesive removes easily with Lace Release, C-22 or Rapid Release.

Cons- This Adhesive can be very gooey. It is very stringy difficult to use. I do not recommend it for begginers.

Final Comments- Attachment time varies from one individual to another, the oilier the skin the shorter the hold time (which is why we include scalp protector to increase your wear times). Do not apply to irritated skin and if you are concerned about allergies/etc., please always do a skin test prior to full use.

Safe Grip Adhesive Review:

Pros: This adhesive dries very fast and clear leaving no shine. For an even faster dry, use a dryer on the cool setting. This is a great touch-up adhesive to keep around because it is easy to use. Clean-up is a breeze when using 100% pure acetone and a cotton ball. The acetone keeps your fingers and lace free from stickiness and glue boogers.

Cons- It does not give a very strong hold, so touch up’s are done about every 3 days or so when used alone.

No Shine Super Tape review:

Pros- No shine Tape has a dull Finish, no Residue and is water proof & hypoallergenic. This adhesive tape is usually worn with ultra hold or Mastix P” Adhesive to give a stronger hold. Particularly in the nape area, adhesive alone will not hold for long with out the fortification of adhesive tape.

Cons- No shine tape has a very strong adhesion (sticks to everything!) thefore it is very difficult to remove. It may cause damage or hair loss around your own hairline if not removed properly.  Spray C-22 solvent and leave it on for 15minutes before you begin to lift the tape.

Mastix “P” Spirit Gum Review:

Pros- This is my favorite adhesive! It dries clear without a hint of hard, gooey, white residue. It has a watery consistancy therefore it goes on really easy. Its great for touch ups on the go because it is no mess no fuss. It dries super FAST, so you must have your unit in place and already positioned. The instructions say you must apply the lace when the adhesive is still damp. That gives you maybe 10 seconds. The 1.7 oz bottle is small enough to carry in your purse, so touch-up at work are not a problem at all.Using 100% Pure Acetone, there is barely no residue on my skin or my lace.
This adhesive was created for the film industry therefore it also come in the matte no shine version.

Cons- This adhesive is not suitable for extended wear. It may last 3-5 days. However, this adhesive is so user-friendly (no glue boogers, no caked-up glue, no sticky fingers,no white residue), thus the touch-ups take less than 15 seconds. For a longer hold, i use Mastix P” Spirit gum with adhesive tape.

Lace Wig Shedding

posted by sassyhair 12:03 PM
Thursday, June 16, 2011

Shedding on a lace wig is to be expected due to the fact that the hair is hand tied by a single knot (sometimes a double knot) to the lace material. Excessive shedding can cause thinning of the hair and bald patches on your unit. To minimize these effects it is very important that proper care be taken at home during combing, styling and everyday use. Below are things to avoid.

Causes for Shedding Balding/Thinning

1. Combing your lace wig while it is still wet after washing and conditioning

 2. Roughness while combing and washing/handing your lace wig

3. Using very oily or greasy haircare products on your unit

4. Not thoroughly removing adhesives from your unit prior to washing

5. Using hot or very warm water when washing your unit

6. Combing your wig from root to tip instead of from tip to root.

Below are a few maintenance techniques which will help prevent excessive hair shedding.

 1. Use Knot Sealer- Knot Sealer is a product that comes in small spray bottle that is used to seal the knots on your lace wig. Turn the wig inside out, spray on the mesh or lace and allow it to completely dry before wearing it. It is also important that you Reseal the knots after every wash. Wait for your unit to completely dry before spraying Knots Sealer. Knot Sealer is available in the “Accessories” section of our website.

2. Do Not Scratch your scalp through your lace wig as this will cause shedding. Instead, pat your head with your hand or remove your unit and treat your scalp with anti-itch shampoo and then moisturize your scalp.

3. Use a wide tooth comb or wig brush (cushion brush). Comb from the tip up while holding the hair above so that you will avoid pulling at the knots.

4. Never comb your lace wig while wet. Prior to washing the hair make sure you comb it out thoroughly.

5. Avoid using care products with high Alcohol content i.e Spritz, Hair Spray, Shampoos etc. These products can damage the hair causing breakage and/or shedding.

 6. You must thoroughly remove glue residue from our wig. Letting adhesives build up on your unit will cause shedding

7. Do not Blow Dry or Sit under a dryer with heat. We highly recommend letting your unit air dry after washing. If you must brow dry, make sure it is on a cool

8. When sleeping in your unit it is best to braid up your hair so it does not tangle while you sleep. You should gently comb your unit out each night prior to wrapping it up in the scarf. Also it is very important that you wrap a silk or satin scarf or bonnet around your head, this will help to prevent friction which will cause  breakage and/or shedding.

Ordering a Lace Wig Online

Ordering on line can be a risk however, lace wigs online are much cheaper than trying to purchase one from a brick and mortar wig store. You can save up to 60% when ordering  Lace Wigs online. When ordering online it is important that you view at least 4 pictures of what you are buying. Make sure you see a picture of

 1) The overall Front of the Lace
2) A close up of the Front Hair Line*
3) A picture of the Back View of the lace wig
4) A picture of the side view.

You want to know what you are getting. Also avoid scams from sellers who use images of wigs that do not belong to them. Be sure you do your research before purchasing. There are many fly by night lace wig websites popping up everyday, so make sure the company is professional and legitimate.

Cheap AND Stylish Lace Wigs

It’s a common misconception in the world of fashion and beauty that you have to pay top dollar in order to get a quality product and look your best, which certainly isn’t the case. While buying makeup from a secondhand shop or choosing your wardrobe from sidewalk sales at antique stores won’t score you any fashion points, you don’t need to go to these extremes to save money. The key is to seek out quality products at discount prices.

Take cheap lace wigs for instance. Although these wigs may be cheap, they’re still constructed with real Remy hair and quality materials. The price is low because of an economical design that requires less lace, not because the manufacturer skimped on the materials or production. Remember: quality and affordability aren’t mutually exclusive.

Options for Front Lace Wigs

Lace front wigs are ideal for women on a budget in need of a stylish and affordable wig. Because lace is only on the front of the cap, these wigs cost much less to manufacture than their full lace counterparts. This allows the makers to use premium Indian Remy hair and other quality materials while still keeping the price low.

If you’re worried about your front lace wig fitting properly, don’t be; the cap often comes with adjustable straps to help you achieve a custom fit. And with their amazing design, most of these wigs can be worn with or without adhesives. The lace typically ranges between 1.5 and 3.5 inches in length. The only downside is that since the lace is only in the front of the wig, your styling and parting options are somewhat limited.

Losing My Luscious Locks

Ever since I was a little girl, my long, flowing locks have been my best asset. During high school, my classmates voted unanimously to give me the award for best hair, and I’ve been known to spend hundreds of dollars on a haircut. Last weekend I volunteered to babysit my young nephew while my sister and her husband celebrated their anniversary. This seemingly small favor quickly turned into a major fiasco when the young toddler got gum in my hair while I was holding him.

After standing in front of the mirror for hours with a pair of scissors and tears in my eyes, I was able to get all of the gum out. But it came at the expense of over eight inches of hair. I was mortified by the prospect of being without my hair, so I went out and purchased a Malaysian Remy weave in order to keep my length and volume.

Perfect Hair with None of the Work

Every woman wants to have beautiful hair. This is not surprising, as long, voluptuous hair is a sign of beauty and femininity in cultures around the globe. Unfortunately, growing out your hair is a long, labor-intensive process if you want your locks to be healthy. Many women can’t keep up with the needed maintenance and simply resort to short hairstyles.

Of course, there are those who want the luxuriousness of long hair without putting in the work, and luckily there are options out there. Wigs are the most obvious option, but wearing a wig 24/7 is unappealing to many. Another viable alternative are virgin hair extensions. Unlike the cheap, shoddy hair extensions of the past, these new and improved extensions blend perfectly with your natural hair for an amazing look.

Wedding on a Budget

When my girlfriend and I finally decided to tie the knot last fall, we knew that creating our dream wedding on a budget would be a difficult task. We decided that we would cut corners where at all possible, but we certainly didn’t want to sacrifice quality. Our ceremony was last weekend, and I am happy to say that everything went off without a hitch.

One of the biggest money savers was renting her wedding dress instead of buying a new one; we figured, why spend thousands on a dress that you will only wear one time? This allowed her to have the dress of her dreams without blowing our budget. She is a big proponent of lace wigs and wanted a new one for the big day. We shopped around online and were able to find an outlet with affordable full lace wigs wit the exact style she had in mind.

Making the Most of Your Front Hair Wig

While lace front human hair wigs don’t offer as much styling versatility as their full lace counterparts, you can still achieve a wide variety of classic and contemporary looks. Updos and ponytails are out of the question with front lace wigs, but the rest of the hair styling repertoire is fair game. One of the trickier aspects of styling a front lace wig is achieving an undetectable part.

Since the lace only covers the front of the wig, it’s literally impossible to have a part that runs the full length of the scalp. This means you’ll have to resort to partial parts. If your scalp or natural hair is drastically different in color from the wig, the part will be quite noticeable. In these instances, try wearing a stocking or skullcap to make the contrast less conspicuous.

What to Wear on Your Wedding Day

You’ve found the perfect dress, the invitations are in the mail, and the chapel is reserved and just waiting for you to walk down the aisle. The wedding plans are going better than planned, but there are a few niggling details to be worked out. As the bride-to-be, it’s crucial that you look your best. Just think of all the wedding photos that will be taken from every conceivable angle – both in the church and in the reception hall afterward. You’ll want to look angelic and gorgeous for posterity.

Out of all the last minute details that need to be ironed out, the cosmetic ones are perhaps most important. If you are looking to add length, body and volume to your hair, consider a Remy weave. What sort of accessories do you want adorning your head and face? According to tradition, a bride would wear a wedding veil to symbolize virginity and shyness. More recently, tiaras have been a popular replacement that allows brides to show off their expertly applied makeup. In either case, the choice is up to you.
